Born of the streets, with only a few wood panels, canvas and stones sheltering the artists and the audience, the circus now plays in sophisticated facilities. From a nomadic lifestyle, it became a permanent way of life in the 19th century, before reuniting with travel and freedom under the big top. Today, troupes travel the world and transit through permanent facilities such as TOHU, true benchmarks for their development.
The exhibition tells a unique 250-year-old story of constructions in constant… deconstruction! Drawings, sketches, stamps and photos depict the evolution of a trailblazing artistic genre!
