BEAU DOMMAGE : LA PRISE DE RISQUE AU CIRQUE

Du Fonds Jacob-William

From tightrope walkers to knife throwers, and from lion tamers to flying trapeze artists, danger and the possibility of falling (even, at times, to one’s death) have been inherent to the circus since the end of the 19th century, arousing the curiosity of spectators hungry for thrills and chills.

Today, contemporary acrobats flirt with the void and fly above the abyss, reconnecting with the legendary fear factor at the heart of the circus arts. Through a selection of colourful stamps, paintings and posters, this exhibitionexplores the haunting draw of the big top in an attempt to define our fascination for the extreme.
