Rice is a symbol of abundance. So what better way to represent material success than with this white gold? Rice is everywhere in this play by Cambodian troupe Phare Circus. It's a central element in the initiatory quest of a man who goes through the stages of social accomplishment and enrichment. But in the end, success and individualism only bring him constraints and disillusionment. This apology of Buddha's life is brought to life here in a circus show whose poetry is enhanced by the performances of three musicians and a painter. A universal and timeless reflection, magnificently illustrated!

About Phare Circus

Phare Ponleu Selpak, meaning "the light of art", has its origins in drawing workshops organized since 1986 at Site 2, a refugee camp on the Thai border. The association was founded in 1994 in Battambang by a group of young adults who had benefited from these workshops on their return to their hometown. It is a Cambodian non-governmental organization which aims to support community development through the delivery of social, educational and cultural services to vulnerable children and their families. The circus school welcomes and trains children and teenagers in several circus disciplines: acrobatics, juggling, balancing, contortion, trapeze and clowning. PPS circus shows combine various disciplines: breathtaking circus techniques, choreographed staging, burlesque scenes and live music. Priority is given to creation without refusing to incorporate external influences, even if Khmer roots are intrinsically omnipresent.
