*The deadline to reserve your kit is February 21.

KIT 1: Botanical pop-up by Simone

Create a green and dancing pop-up with simple materials for a more than astonishing result with the help of the artist Simone, who will present her BOTANIQUE exhibition at TOHU in 2022. Your pop-up could be part of the exhibition, don't miss it!

Simone TOHU

Julie Desquand, alias Simone, began her work as a painter in 2004 when she settled in Senegal, through a painting inspired by the daily life of a West African capital. Upon her arrival in Canada in 2012, her approach evolves towards unique impressions on paper, where drawing mixes with painting, drawn monotypes. Back in France, this work continues on the walls of the city. By prolonging there the already existing traces and forms and by bringing back to life plants and animals, Simone strives to bring back to life this nature of which we are all part, which allows us to escape, makes us feel good and soothes us.

KIT 2: Shadow theatre by Mobile Home

Since the dawn of time, humanity has always played with shadows to become a very special form of theatre. Shadow theatre requires few props: a screen, a light source and an object to be illuminated. Children will have fun waving shadows to create their own story and titillate their imaginations. We invite them to create their own shadow theater and invent the history of the circus!

New! The virtual workshop

In addition to this creative kit, Steeve Dumais of the Mobile Home Company will offer a virtual workshop where children can learn the basic principles of the Shadow theater. They will also learn how to manipulate aluminum foil to create a shimmering Northern Lights effect and finally, how to play with different objects to create new characters or sets.

Virtual workshop schedule - Reservation required :
Tuesday March 2nd: 1:30 pm
Thursday, March 4th: 11am and 1:30pm
*Approximately 45 minutes. The link to the workshop will be sent to you by email the day before according to the chosen time slot.

For this workshop, in addition to the Shadow Theatre creative kit, families will need :

  • A fork and a spoon
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive tape
  • A sheet of white paper
  • A piece of aluminum foil
  • One lamp
Steeve Dumais TOHU

Founded by Steeve Dumais and Lucas Jolly in 1999, the Mobile Home Company creates multidisciplinary shows in urban space as well as indoors, depending on the content of the shows. It has to its credit many creations involving several creators from various artistic fields (dance, video, sound creation, actors, visual artists), always taking pleasure in bringing together different artistic mediums such as puppetry and shadow theater.

The free activities are presented thanks to the financial contribution of the City of Montreal.
