Come introduce your children to the sound of percussion from northeastern Brazil and help the Raio de Ouro group revive the mystical bull of St-Michel neighbourhood, a legendary creature that loves to dance! This workshop of about 45 minutes of music and storytelling is based on the history of Bumba meu boi and is aimed at an audience of 4 to 8 years old, however, children of all ages can participate, accompanied by an adult. Get here early, *the number of instruments is limited! The workshop will be followed by a short ambulatory performance on the TOHU site with the participants. The Maracatu Raio de Ouro group will transport you to Brazil in the festive atmosphere of Recife and Olinda streets in full carnival with its show "Festa Popular"! The TOHU will be animated by their powerful rhythms and majestic songs. May 28 at 3:45 pmConfirm my presence at the opening weekend
Discover the exhibition Botanique and the work of artist Simone (Julie Desquand). With her, make a botanical pop-up. Observe and cut out paper plants found in the wild on the sidewalks of our city and then stage them inside a cardboard pop-up. A creative workshop for everyone. Come participate in the creation of the collective work de la Falla, a flagship event in the neighbourhood, come help on a decorative element with recycled materials according tot he techniques used for the Falla. Whether its the youngest or the oldest, our recreationnal workshop will allow participants to learn circus techniques and their benefits. The effects of circus practice are numerous: bonding, building trust, fun and creative fulfilment. Head to the Tohu to experience slackline, juggling and even trapeze. Come and climb our mobile wall, which is a 7.5-metre (25-foot) tower. Three people can climb the tower at the same time at a rate of about 70 participants per hour. No matter your height, whether you are a teenager or an adult, you can test yourself with the different levels that are specifically designed for your abilities. A patented and perfectly safe mechanism, known as an automatic belay device, allows us to maximize the ratio of climbers per hour, without reducing our participants’ safety. On the edge of circus, street theatre, visual art and puppet manipulation, the world of Extravaganz'arts is resolutely atypical. Jacques & Zèbrelle, characters with oversized heads, come from an imaginary and atypical world of surrealist and romantic inspiration. Accompanied by a juggler moving in a tricycle, the two protagonists with a height of 12 feet wander on festive and catchy rhythms. Have you ever attended a street dance battle? These danced duels highlighting the art of freestyle (improvisation)? On May 28 at TOHU, you will have the chance to see four emerging artists compete against four established artists from Montreal. This workshop is an introduction to the art of walking on stilts for children from 5 to 11 years old. With some courage and determination, the participant explores his balance center and takes up the challenge of taking a few steps on a guided course! Nacho con Salsa is a circus company that was created in September 2019. Thanks to the friendship and complicity between the two artists Carlos Verdin and Miguel Jalaff, the main objective of the company is to create performances where humour and circus combine to give spectators an original, unique and unforgettable moment. May 28 will be an opportunity to meet all the different cultural and socio-community organizations of the St-Michel neighbourhood. They will present their services and programming. DIY activities for young people, augmented reality demonstration, quiz, and an opportunity to meet with actors from the neighbourhood and discover a lot more about their contribution to the community. TOHU offers free bikes and scooters to explore Frédéric-Back Park at your own pace. The equipment loan counter is located in the public square of the TOHu, near the artists' tent. SYNTHONE is an urban and experimental project of phonography, live broadcasting of audio graphic works in public space, with sound artists Vivian Li, Claudette Lemay, Florence Delphine-Roux, Gabrielle HB and Anne-F Jacques. On Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, starting at 7 p.m., the artists will hold performances using sounds captured in Frédéric-Back Park, which they will mix live, while a phonographic picnic broadcast on shortwave to radio receivers will be held on Sunday at noon in the Boisée Est sector. The public is invited to bring their own shortwave radio to hear the live performances.Confirm my presence at the opening weekend

A pre-show guided tour that will allow you to learn more about the Cité des arts du cirque, the TOHU, Cirque du soleil and the École nationale de cirque. The tour begins with the Cirque du Soleil’s art garden and the many works of public art that compose it and ends at the TOHU where you will discover the particularities of a performance hall dedicated to circus arts and the uniqueness of a unique place in Montreal. Discover the Frédéric-Back Park to the rhythm of the walk during this guided tour accessible to all. Follow your guide on the Boisé trails, enjoy the 360° viewpoint at the top of the lookout. Les contes d'ici et d'ailleurs is a storytelling project in partnership with the City of Montreal, La TOHU and the Centre Yves-Thériault. During 4 workshops given by a storyteller-mentor, students in francization conceived their own tales inspired by their experiences and then learned to interpret them. Come and discover their creations and attend a performance by a professional storyteller during this festive event for the whole family!

A creative tale with a historical flavour La lavandière d'Hochelaga tells the story of the arrival of a royal daughter in Montreal in 1668. La lavandière d'Hochelaga, like Conte à rebours, is part of a trilogy of multidisciplinary tales inspired by the legend of the Laundresses of the Night. Actor/storyteller Danielle Godin, who has appeared in Lance et compte, Scoop, Ramdam and more recently in District 31, will take you on a journey through time! At the end of the tale, the audience is invited to learn the Bransle des Lavandières, a fun and playful dance from the court of Louis XIV!
