Everybody is a master of something. Blink, step, jump, balance, flip, fly. This is an ode to the countless hours needed to achieve great things. A tribute to the dedication required to realise our physical ambitions. An acknowledgement of the backstory that is often more spectacular than the finished product.
Eight acrobats and one musician investigate physical skill; how we obtain it, how we perfect it, and how it can transform our lives. Through highlighting the nuance of high level acrobatics, audiences experience a heightened appreciation of the countless hours required to master the skills they are witnessing. Set to a driving, dynamic and intricate musical score using percussion/drums live on-stage, Ten Thousand Hours is a revelry of the distinct physical language that defines GOM and a celebration of the pursuit of mastery.
This is a love letter to our bodies and the amazing things they let us do every day.
This is an invitation to watch us work.
"Ten Thousand Hours is a stunning exhibition of beauty and expertise that will leave the audience in amazement." ★★★★★
We are Gravity & Other Myths, but our friends call us GOM. We are one of Australia's most acclaimed arts companies of the past decade, inspiring audiences, empowering artists, and connecting communities around the world. Our work celebrates humanity, playfulness, and physical virtuosity. It is bold, mischievous, daring, and innovative—a true product of the company that creates it.
We are the only South Australian arts company of our size with such a prolific and extensive output. Since GOM was founded in 2009, we have presented 8 acclaimed works in 38 countries to over 1,000,000 audience members; a testament to the experience of our leadership team and the vision of our key artists and creators. Two incredible teams of acrobats perform an average of 300 shows per year.
We are proud to create work for everyone. The diversity of our portfolio allows us to navigate between multiple worlds in the arts sector, from grassroots community programs and commercial initiatives to invitations to prestigious festivals. GOM exists at the forefront of our art form. The sophisticated conceptual and physical investigation in our work has propelled us into a new genre of live performance, challenging the circus as an art form and existing beyond its boundaries.
