Guest of honour at the Grain de ciel festival, Claudio Capelli is an internationally renowned artist and kite creator. Born in Italy in 1950, he developed a passion for figurative painting from an early age before expanding his artistic practice into new realms. In the late 1970s, a transformative encounter with kite enthusiasts in New York changed the course of his career: he discovered in the kite a new artistic medium, one capable of carrying painting beyond the boundaries of the canvas.
Known for his painted portraits that seem to gaze down from the sky, Capelli offers, through the Grain de ciel exhibition, a sensitive and unique approach to aerial art. A pioneer of the wind art movement, he has spent more than 40 years exploring the dialogue between painting, wind and public space, transforming the sky into a true open-air gallery.
Founder of the ARTEVENTO festival in Cervia, Italy, which he has directed since 1981, Claudio Capelli has played a key role in promoting kites as a legitimate form of artistic expression. Through his work, he brings to the festival a vision that is both poetic, deeply human and unifying, where artists and audiences come together around a shared fascination: witnessing art come alive through the movement of the wind.
The exhibition is presented at TOHU from August 14 to October 18, 2026.
Join us for the opening reception on August 14, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at TOHU, and be among the first to discover the exhibition in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
