This is the story of two neighbors who share a common courtyard. The two women are very different—even opposites. One is rather neat and organized, while the other is messy and exuberant. As you can imagine, the second one often annoys the first! Huguette, the exuberant woman, enjoys hanging her laundry while blasting loud music, setting up her tent for camping nights in her backyard, or practicing her acrobatic bike tricks with a lot of noise. But what bothers her neighbor Vana the most are her trash cans, which are always overflowing. The neighbors will learn to communicate and eventually come to understand each other better, and a glimmer of friendship will even begin to emerge between these two women, who, deep down, may not be all that different after all. This female clown duo will have you laughing until you cry!
Marie-Hélène D’Amours, founder of Le Gros Orteil—a theater company specializing in productions for young audiences—and its executive and artistic director, possesses an incredible creative and entrepreneurial spirit. Driven by pure energy, it was during her studies in dramatic arts (acting track) at UQAM and the École de Cirque de Québec, between 1999 and 2004, that she honed and elevated her passion for physical theater, clowning, and the circus. A little later, in 2013, she finally realized her dream and founded her cultural organization for young audiences, called Le Gros Orteil.
Rooted in its community and open to the world, Le Gros Orteil also offers its well-equipped space to artists for research and exploration residencies or rehearsal work. The company also develops entertainment programs, circus workshops, and clowning workshops.
Le Gros Orteil is always brewing new ideas for the present and the future: they are all rooted in an unconditional love for children, a strong desire to inspire dreams and imagination, and a passion for the boundless ingenuity at the heart of the circus arts and professional clowning.
