Maputo-Mozambique embodies a dynamic fusion of movement, juggling, singing and percussion. This creation offers total freedom to the performers, generating spectacular and unexpected performances. Initially formed during a juggling workshop in Mozambique in 2011, this show has surpassed its initial objectives, accumulating over two hundred performances worldwide. Bouncing on percussion, juggling plastic bags, balls and clubs, each performance is a lively, innovative exploration of the boundaries between dance, circus and music, combining energy and poetry in a captivating, festive atmosphere.
"Conjuguant jeux corporels et rythmiques, six artistes mozambicains mettent en œuvre un jonglage musical d'une grande précision. Une partition inédite."
Thomas Guérineau began juggling at the age of 15, self-taught. He trained in juggling, acrobatics, mime, dance and music at the Annie Fratellini school from 92 to 96. It was during these years that the art of gesture took on greater importance for him through contact with Philippe Minella. At the same time, he worked in research workshops with Dominique Boivin, Francesca Lattuada and Sophie Meyer. During these years of apprenticeship at the circus school, he created a short juggling piece entitled Tango with Bruno Lanteri, and his attraction to dance led him to take part in opera ballets, working with Erik Kruger (stage direction), Tessa Beaumont and Alban Richard (choreographers). From 2007 to 2010, he founded and co-directed the Maison des Jonglages, which today hosts one of the biggest international juggling festivals. He has created four musical juggling pieces: Circulaire (2011 - duo, Thomas Guérineau and Mathias Pontevia) and Maputo-Mozambique (2013 - piece for 6 jugglers from Mozambique), Lumière, impact et continuité (2018 - duo between a juggler-percussionist and a lighting designer), Petite Rêverie (2019 - duo, show for very young audiences) from the artistic material of Rêverie
(2020), Ombres, Corps, Sons with students from ENACR - Ecole Nationale de Rosny-sous-Bois, commissioned by Théâtre et Cinéma Georges Simenon de Rosny and ENACR.
In 2024, on the occasion of the Paris Olympic Games, he created the piece Basketteuses de Bamako, combining juggling and basketball with artists from Bamako, Mali.
